Chubb Limited, a global insurance group providing property and casualty insurance, life insurance and related services, has appointed Sean Ringsted as Chief Scientist and Executive Vice President, Chubb Group, with immediate effect.
Chubb said the newly established position will give Ringsted responsibility for overseeing the company’s artificial intelligence, data and analytics strategy and related initiatives across its global operations. The appointment adds a dedicated senior leadership role focused on the use of AI, data and analytics within the insurer.
Ringsted has spent more than 30 years with Chubb and its predecessor, ACE Group, working across a range of areas including risk, actuarial leadership, analytics and digital transformation. Before taking up his new position, he was Executive Vice President, Chubb Group and Chief Digital Business Officer, a role in which Chubb said he was responsible for the company’s global AI activities.
During his tenure as Chief Digital Business Officer, Ringsted established and led Chubb’s digital business unit, which the company said delivered profitable growth. Chubb also credited him with helping shape the way the organisation uses data and analytics to inform business decisions.
“This appointment amplifies how important our initiatives around AI and data are to our fundamental strategy. It also reflects Sean’s long-standing role as a most trusted partner and colleague to me and the senior team. His deep knowledge, experience and expertise uniquely position him for the role of Chief Scientist,” added Evan Greenberg, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Chubb Group.
Ringsted has held several senior positions at Chubb during his career. He was the company’s Chief Risk Officer from 2008 until 2023 and was also appointed Chief Digital Officer in 2017. Before that, he served as Chief Actuary between 2004 and 2017.
His earlier positions included Executive Vice President and Chief Risk Officer at ACE Tempest Re from 2002 to 2004, and Senior Vice President and Chief Actuary at ACE Tempest Re from 1998 to 2002. Before joining ACE, Ringsted worked as a consultant at Tillinghast-Towers Perrin.
Ringsted studied Biochemistry at the University of Bristol, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree, before completing a Doctorate of Philosophy in Biochemistry at the University of Oxford. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (FIA).
