The Australian Reinsurance Pool Corporation (ARPC), the government-owned agency that manages Australia’s terrorism and cyclone reinsurance arrangements, has appointed Cameron Hick as its new Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO).

Hick has taken up the position of CUO Designate, and will work closely with Michael Pennell, PSM, the current CUO of ARPC, to ensure an orderly transition.

Starting September 14th, 2026, Pennell will commence his leave before retiring on November 27th, 2026.

Hick has almost three decades of experience in the global reinsurance market, and has held leadership positions across underwriting, client management, broking, and portfolio strategy.

In July 2024, he joined ARPC as Head of Technical Underwriting, and has since led technical underwriting across the terrorism and cyclone pools.

In the past, Hick served at industry giants like Munich Re in Australia and Germany, PartnerRe in Switzerland, and in reinsurance broking positions with Willis Re, Gallagher Re, and Aon.

Dr. Christopher Wallace, Chief Executive Officer, ARPC, commented in the appointment, “Cameron brings deep technical expertise and a strong understanding of ARPC’s remit and the broader insurance landscape. His experience within the organisation and across the market positions him well to lead our underwriting function into its next phase.”

Hick said, “I’m proud to step into this role at an important time for ARPC. My focus will be on further strengthening our capability, working closely with insurers and ensuring the terrorism and cyclone pools remain efficient and effective.”

Commenting on Pennell’s departure, Dr. Wallace said, “Mike has made a significant and lasting contribution to ARPC, strengthening our underwriting capability and our relationships across the market. On behalf of the organisation, I thank him for his longstanding contribution and leadership.”
